The tradition of cake holds a certain mystique. It is what we go to for all of our most special celebrations. We photograph our children on their first birthdays with their very first cake, we roll out a tiered cake for sweet sixteen parties or mitzvahs, and we even smash it carelessly in each other’s faces to celebrate the joy of being eternally wed. It brings a tear to our eyes just thinking about it.
